Lumix full-frame bodies record V-Log flat on purpose. Gamut's base set is the translation layer that turns it into a clean, cinematic Rec709 picture for the S5II, S5IIX and S9.
The aim is accuracy rather than flavour: faces read warm without going orange, the curve borrows from film with tidy blacks, and very bright areas glide off instead of forming a hard edge. Tungsten rooms, cloudy exteriors and mixed-light receptions behave the same way, so every creative grade you stack on top starts from a stable base.
