Long before modern colour film, Hollywood relied on Technicolor. The early two-strip version could only reproduce a narrow band of reds and cyans; the later three-strip process delivered the lush, saturated colour of the golden age.
One well-known Scorsese biopic used both processes to signal different eras of its story.
